Use a dimensioned drawing and actual samples to select mahjong tile size. American, Chinese, Japanese and travel labels should not be treated as proof of one universal tile dimension. The chosen tiles must also fit the racks and storage in your collection.
Define the measurement convention
Record length, width and thickness using a labelled drawing so that the order of dimensions is unambiguous. Identify the measurement points and edge profile. Agree tolerances for the proposed construction rather than copying a numerical standard from an unrelated set.
Check the working system
Try the intended tile count in the rack and inspect support, visibility and usable length. Check storage clearance, separators and removal of the tiles. Include the mat and packed layout in the review; changing a tile dimension can require changes elsewhere in the collection.
Approve size through use
Handle and arrange the sample to assess grip, stacking and face readability with the intended users. Record the chosen drawing revision and sample identity. Any alternative size should be reviewed again for artwork, accessory fit and packaging, rather than assumed to be a simple scale change.
Prepare the next decision
Next, review design file checklist alongside your current brief. Review the custom American mahjong set project page or send a project question with the relevant drawings, photographs and open decisions.
